Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Reopens in May

Though avant-prog rockers Sleepytime Gorilla Museum recently disclosed the title and tracklisting for their forthcoming album, In Glorious Times, on the website for The End Records, a tentative date for release did not follow. That, however, changed with the band’s current tour with Secret Chiefs 3, as the group announced that the new disc is slated for May to coincide with another tour.

The Oakland natives have kept busy in a variety of other ways, making available a DVD for sale on tour and completing a four-and-a-half-minute video with director Adam Feinstein (Hoodwink, Say You Love Me). The video, which is based upon Finnegans Wake by author James Joyce, is accompanied by “Helpless Corpses Enactment,” the second track on the album.

Violinist/singer Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat Trio, Book of Knots, 2 Foot Yard) is also at work on a literary crossover of sorts, preparing music for creatures such as the Ink Monkey, the Animal Dreamed, and the Hundred-Headed Snake from Jorge Luis Borges’ Book of Imaginary Beings.

Catch Sleepytime Gorilla Museum on tour now through March 24 in the U.S. and from April 7-20 in Europe.
