  • Perform basic accounting functions (invoicing, reconciliations, etc.)
  • Execute Monthly Close and Year-end Close accounting duties
  • Research and present operational strengths and opportunities.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field
  • Ability to work 40+ hours/week
  • Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills

 

Benefits:

This is a full-time position with competitive compensation that also includes full health/dental benefits, before-tax commuter program, and more than three weeks of vacation time. The work environment is comfortable but energetic, and the magazine offices are located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, close to all CTA and Metra lines.

Business Development Manager: Advertising Sales,

To discover brand relevant businesses, build a pipeline of decision makers, and close $75k in advertising and content-marketing services per quarter to them.  To offer excellent customer service to clients, meet their expectations, and create a foundation for long-term relationships.

Assist in BDM team hitting its group “rock”.

Consistently demonstrate the company’s core values.

Develop at least one repeat client in the year.

Provide client-editorial that meets the editorial mission statement.

Receive excellent client service feedback.

Marketing Intern,

Description:

We’re looking to add a qualified intern to join our marketing team.  If you’re looking to make an undeniably positive impact on our company, culture and publications, and have an eagerness to learn new skills while sharpening your talents, then read on!

The Marketing Intern will work on a variety of projects in various stages.  You may be working on print and online marketing campaigns, or researching new marketing initiatives.  You could be engaging our social media audience, or helping plan our next kick-ass event.  You’ll have the opportunity to put your creativity and sharpness into existing marketing projects, as well as lead us in new directions!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the creation of e-mail campaigns, online promotion, newsletters, etc.
  • Assist in the distribution or delivery of marketing materials
  • Assist with fulfillment of marketing offers/online orders
  • Assist with production and execution of trade shows, events and partnerships
  • Manage social media efforts
  • Online research
  • Day-to-day office tasks and data entry

 

You must have a background in Marketing, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, with extensive knowledge of Web and social media. Photoshop and videography experience is a bonus.  Regular on-site attendance is necessary, in addition to occasional after work event hours.  This is an unpaid internship, but class credit can be provided.  A commitment of two semesters is preferred.

Editorial and Design Internships,

EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP

The Editorial Intern will be integral in producing Design Bureau, ALARM, Modern Weddings, and Design Bureau special editions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching topics / story ideas
  • Writing front-of-book product call-outs, reviews
  • Writing supplemental copy — TOC, captions, titles
  • Fact-checking and copy-editing
  • Helping to find blogs and other media outlets/resources that might be helpful
  • Posting online blogs for all three publications
  • Assisting in proofing process
  • Opportunity to write longer stories and/or features
  • Online research
  • Help gathering hi-res imagery
  • Day-to-day office tasks, including processing mailing and data entry

DESIGN INTERNSHIP

The Design Intern will be integral in producing Design BureauALARM, Modern Weddings, and ancillary publications for print, web and mobile applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design of in-house marketing and advertising materials
  • Production assistance including PDF preparation and digital image processing
  • Illustration
  • Online research
  • Opportunity to design editorial layouts for print and/or web publication.
  • Photography assistance
  • Day-to-day office tasks and data entry

 

Must have a background in graphic design and exhibit an interest in print and/or digital publications. Proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop CS5 required. Knowledge of InCopy and Digital Publishing Suite highly preferred. Mission for Account Manager

To discover editorially relevant projects, build leads from the participating companies, and close $45k in advertising and content-marketing services per quarter to them.  To offer excellent customer service to clients, meet their expectations, and create industry-leading editorial and audience.

Key Outcomes:

Hit each quarterly “rock” goal.

Assist in Account Management team hitting its group “rock”.

Consistently demonstrate the company’s core values.

Develop at least one repeat client in the year.

Provide client-editorial that meets the editorial mission statement.

Develop and close a  “package” sale.

  • Create and close a sales that delivers more than one our products (print, web, enewsletter, tablet, reprints, multiple insertions)

 

Receive excellent client service feedback.

  • Take accountability for client service (both feature companies and advertisers)
  • Set realistic expectations for clients
  • Make sure all client expectations are met or exceeded
  • Provide opportunity for client feedback, and take it into consideration
