DESIGN INTERNSHIP – All Publications:

The design internship position will be integral in producing ALARM Magazine, Design Bureau, and Modern Weddings and ancillary publications for print, web, and mobile applications.

Responsibilities may include:

+ Design of in-house marketing and advertising materials

+ Production assistance including PDF preparation and digital image processing

+ Illustration

+ Online research

+ Opportunity to design editorial layouts for print and/or web publication.

+ Photography assistance

+ Day-to-day office tasks and data entry

Must have a background in graphic design and exhibit an interest in print and/or digital publications. Proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop CS5 required. Knowledge of InCopy and Digital Publishing Suite highly preferred. Regular on-site attendance necessary. This is an unpaid internship for class credit only.

ONLINE EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP – All Publications:

The online editorial-internship position will be integral in developing Design Bureau, ALARM Magazine, and Modern Weddings web presence and helping to create a robust digital complement to our print publication.

Responsibilities include:

+ Researching, pitching, and writing original content for the Design Bureau website and formatting existing print content for the web on the WordPress platform

+ Editing and resizing photos for the web

+ Developing an effective and cohesive link between all of Design Bureau‘s social-media outlets, including the website/blog, Facebook, and Twitter.

+ Helping to produce a biweekly E-mail newsletter, The Intelligencer

+ The opportunity to write longer stories and pitch ideas for the print magazine

Must be proficient with: Writing, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, HTML. This is an unpaid internship for class credit only. During this internship, you will report directly to managing editor Kristin Larson. EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP – ALARM

The editorial internship position will be integral in producing ALARM Magazine’s bimonthly issues and web content.

Responsibilities include:

+ Researching topics / story ideas, specifically for front-of-book sections

+ Writing front-of-book content and short reviews

+ Writing supplemental copy — TOC, captions, titles

+ Fact-checking and copy-editing

+ Assisting in proofing process

+ Crafting short music posts for alarmpress.com

+ Opportunity to write reviews, Q&As, longer stories and/or features

+ Online research

+ Day-to-day office tasks, including processing mail (CDs) and data entry

Must have a background in journalism/English and a deep-rooted interest in independent music. Diverse tastes and a love of rock music are preferred. This is an unpaid internship for class credit only. During this internship, you will report directly to music editor Scott Morrow. + Writing front-of-book product call-outs, reviews

+ Writing supplemental copy — TOC, captions, titles

+ Fact-checking and copy-editing

+ Helping to find blogs and other media outlets/resources that might be helpful

+ Assisting in proofing process

+ Opportunity to write longer stories and/or features

+ Online research

+ Day-to-day office tasks

Job description:

The advertising sales representative works closely within a small team inside sales reps on a daily basis, and reports directly to the associate publisher and publisher. This is a sales/results-driven inside sales phone position with opportunities for growth and advancement based on performance.

Job responsibilities include:

+ Large volume of out-bound calls to prospective advertising partners (100-plus per day)

+ Speaking daily to industry professionals, accomplished artists, and designers

+ Introducing our brand to new partners

+ Creating custom advertising, marketing, and editorial sales packages

+ Meeting and exceeding weekly and monthly sales quotas

Job requirements:

+ At least a BA/BS degree in art, design, journalism, or sales & marketing

+ Passion for architecture, design, or music

+ 3 years of sales experience

+ A proven track record of surpassing sales goals

+ Self-motivation and drive for results

+ Excellent phone and communication skills

+ Comfort making cold calls
