From October 18 – 22, New York City's finest venues, nightclubs, and theaters will be taken over by musicians, music-industry professionals, college-radio nerds, filmmakers, and critics.
Notable bands scheduled to perform include: Trash Talk, Parts & Labor, Davila 666, A Place to Bury Strangers, the Doomtree crew, Talkdemonic, Mexicans with Guns, and Kylesa. Seeing so many concerts, screenings, and panels normally comes at a pretty steep price, but we've teamed up with CMJ to give away two five-day passes.

What are you doing on Monday, September 26? How about going to see Beirut and Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier perform at the Congress? <del datetime="2011-10-11T19:40:39+00:00">We're giving away two pairs of tickets, and all you have to do to win is to sign up for our E-mail newsletter below.</del>

Santa Fe-based multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon and his merry band of Balkan popsters just released their third full-length, The Rip Tide. While it touches on familiar Beirut elements — lounge-y crooning, a bevy of brass — it's also more straightforwardly Western, having cut back on the bells and whistles of Eastern European folk.

Joining Condon and co. at the Congress is French indie-pop artist Laetitia Sadier. Sadier will be playing material from her 2010 solo debut, The Trip, and La Piscine, a recently released collaborative album featuring Rebecca Gates and Richard Swift, among other artists.

Billed as the "Officially Unofficial Pitchfork After-Party," Mayhem at the Mid is an electro smorgasbord taking place on Friday, July 15. What better way to cap off a day of standing in the sweltering heat listening to hyped bands than by cleaning up and hitting the club for some deep bass, laser lights, and frosty beverages?

Among the bands scheduled to propagate the mayhem are New York-based electro-pop outfit Penguin Prison and local electro-rock trio Hey Champ. Also set to play are dance-inducing acts like Jessica 6, Broken Disco 1980, and Midnight Conspiracy.

Regardless of whether you actually attend Pitchfork, you can still attend the questionably official after-party by winning a pair of tickets. We're giving away a whopping five pairs in total. Fill out the form below, and you'll be entered to win.

After a successful debut last year, the North Coast Music Festival returns to Chicago's Union Park this year, with more than 60 acts scheduled to perform over Labor Day weekend (9/2 – 9/4). The rap- and electronic-heavy lineup includes headliners like Thievery Corporation, Rusko, Major Lazer, and Fatboy Slim. To see the full lineup, including when and where you can catch non-electronic acts like The Budos Band, visit the NCMF website.

If you don't want to be one of the only people not going to North Coast (and/or you like winning stuff for the cost of free), fill out the form below. You'll be entered to win one general-admission three-day pass, good for, you guessed it, all three days of what promises to be an onslaught of bass and late-summer fun. If you don't win, stay tuned to our website; we just might have a few more of these bad boys to give away. You can also buy a three-day pass for the entirely reasonable price of $95 right here.

Blue Sky Black Death: "And Stars, Ringed"

Hip-hop production duo Blue Sky Black Death comprises Kingston (Kingston Maguire) and Young God (Ian Taggart). Its first release in 2006, A Heap of Broken Images, was an ambitious double-disc album with lyrical contributions from Rob Sonic, Mike Ladd, and members of Jedi Mind Tricks, Hieroglyphics, and Army of the Pharaohs.

Though the producers frequently collaborate with rappers, they've also released numerous, more experimental instrumentals and teamed with Yes Alexander of The Casual Lust to release Slow Burning Lights, a record that's more indie pop than hip hop, in 2008. Its newest album, Noir, is 14 tracks of grand-scale, instrumental electronica, full of soulful vocal samples, dramatic and twinkling piano, and washes of sweeping, emotional synthesizer. Imagine your favorite hip-hop production run through a mellow, shoegaze-pop filter.

The man behind The Echocentrics is Austin-based, two-time Grammy-nominated producer Adrian Quesada. Quesada has previously worked in bands like Ocote Soul Sounds and Brownout. On The Echocentrics' new album, Sunshadows, he teamed with Argentinean singer Natalia Clavier and Brazilian musician Tita Lima to craft a psychedelic, Latin-funk album that oozes laid-back grooves. Ample use of a Farfisa synthesizer and electric harpsichord take these cross-cultural jams into far-flung hinterlands.
